The biobased transition offers opportunities for both the agricultural sector and institutional investors. Together with Wageningen University & Research, we investigated how the integration of fibre crops affects the ASR Dutch Farmland Fund's portfolio.
The research shows that the integration of biobased crops not only contributes to achieving climate goals and the resilience of agricultural land as an institutional investment, but also creates opportunities for the construction sector. Fibre crops such as hemp, flax and miscanthus contribute to the emission reduction targets of both the agricultural and construction sectors, as well as contributing to soil health and circular value chains.
Including these crops in farmland portfolios not only generates ecological returns, but also contributes to strategic opportunities for biobased building materials and the institutionalisition of carbon credits.
