Today, alderman Geldof of the City of Utrecht will do the honours of opening the Terwijde shopping centre in Utrecht Leidsche Rijn. The shopping centre, which is located adjacent to the Terwijde railway station in Utrecht, has a total lettable area of about 12,000 m2 (some 40 retail spaces, catering establishments and office units), 199 rental apartments, 700 free parking spaces for visitors to the shopping centre and 199 parking spaces for residents.

The following shops will open their doors on 5 November: Keurslager Oostveen, Hizi Hair, Albert Heijn, Albert Heijn Pick Up Point, Bakkerij Neplenbroek, Mitra, Boekhandel Kees, Kruidvat, Wibra, Natuurvoedingswinkel De Weegschaal, Vomar Voordeelmarkt, Aldi, Cafetaria De Driehoek, Etos, Eye Wish Opticien, Banierhuis and BlendUT.

The centre offers a great mix of shops for people’s daily shopping needs and meeting places for coffee and a bite to eat. “Residents have had to wait a while, but it's finally here!”, as Françoise Dechesne, Director of MAB Development, puts it. “Meanwhile, we will continue letting the last few shops.”

On the occasion of the opening, MAB and the shop owners have organised all sorts of free and fun activities. There will be a Ferris wheel, a mini-pancake stand and more. After the official opening, there will be a show-stopping performance by The 3JS, a well-known singing trio, at 4 p.m.

Says Dick Gort, CEO a.s.r. real estate investment management: “The Terwijde shopping centre is at the heart of the Terwijde and Het Zand districts. It’s a beautiful and lively place to live. The shopping centre is the perfect complement to the facilities that are already there. It’s not only an asset to the local area, but also to our investment portfolio.”

a.s.r. real estate investment management purchased the 12,000 m2 in retail space for the ASR Dutch Prime Retail Fund. The ASR Dutch Core Residential Fund is the owner of the 199 apartments in the complex.

Building consortium UBA Bouw BV/Smit’s Bouwbedrijf VOF was responsible for building the shopping centre.

The Terwijde shopping centre is being developed by MAB Development Nederland, which is assisted by LMBS Retail of Utrecht in its letting activities.
