De Klanderij is the first existing multi-tenanted shopping centre in the Netherlands to be awarded the BREEAM certificate for the entire mall, including tenanted areas. a.s.r. vastgoed vermogensbeheer applied for the BREEAM In-Use certificate together with W4Y Adviseurs, Herman de Groot and WPM. De Klanderij shopping centre, including tenanted areas, received a “GOOD” BREEAM In-Use rating in December 2013.

“VERY GOOD” rating
De Klanderij, which is located in the Enschede city centre, is an investment of the ASR Dutch Prime Retail Fund. As the Fund seeks to achieve a "VERY GOOD" rating in 2014, the shopping centre is currently undergoing sustainability improvements, including the construction of public restroom facilities, the introduction of a waste separation system and the installation of energy-efficient lighting. In addition, De Klanderij will be outfitted with digital displays providing information about public amenities, such as public transport.

BREEAM-NL
BREEAM-NL is an assessment method for determining the sustainability performance of buildings. The method encompasses various types of certificates. The BREEAM-NL In-Use certificate, which assesses existing buildings for Asset Performance, Building Management and Occupier Management, is being awarded since 2011. The assessment looks at nine different BREEAM aspects, such as management, materials, transport, waste, water, health & well-being, pollution, energy and land use & ecology.
